Vancouver Stage & Art Rebrand

Vancouver Stage & Art

Rebranding • custom website • stationery suite + event materials

Vancouver Stage and Art is a non-profit arts organization that brings entertainment and education to Vancouver, WA. They had some previous branding done but felt that it didn’t fit with their desired look and feel and overall mission. The previous design lacked rhythm, balance, and didn’t translate well between print and digital. They needed a refined logo plus other lockups and versions, and education about how to use their branding assets. Overall, the logo needed a more balanced rhythm. It already had nods to musical notes and the client wanted to bring them out more. The V and the A tend to get lost in the thickness and the large dots on the S.

The final mark essentially “flips” the V and A to allow for a more balanced rhythm within the diagonal strokes. By adding a thin line to the S and extending the descent of the diagonal line to finish below the baseline, it creates a visual balance that contrasts well to the thick diagonal strokes.

Based on client feedback, it was clear that the existing color palette offered too many options. To simplify and provide clear guidance, the client sought a more straightforward approach with a defined set of colors for specific purposes. The revised design focuses on a streamlined color palette, enabling the client to make confident color selections while maintaining consistency and visual impact.

The stationery design for VSA was crafted by repurposing and tweaking their original brand assets, resulting in a captivating visual rhythm that exudes drama. By integrating bold colors and abstracted shapes, the visual impact is heightened, reinforcing the inherent theatricality and artistry of the performing arts.

VSA’s website serves as a vital platform for promoting community events and delivering essential organizational information. With the client’s need for seamless backend management, I leveraged the user-friendly capabilities of Squarespace to create a custom website that aligns with their brand identity.

As a performing arts and community organization, VSA actively participates in numerous events. Drawing from their distinctive stationary visual language, the event materials aim to encapsulate a sense of motion and vibrancy through their design. The bright color palette along with captivating patterns serves to distinguish VSA amidst a crowded sea of event participants, making them truly stand out.
